Officers of the Nigerian Police Force embarked on a ‘show of force’ at the Lekki Toll Gate earlier today, Nigerian Tribune reported.
Ahead of the February 13th #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest at the Toll Plaza, the officers were reported to have embarked on a show of force.
Some Nigerian youths have threatened to carry out a protest at the Lekki tollgate over plans by the Lagos state government to reopen it for operations.
The Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry had on Saturday, February 6 gave permission to the Lekki Concession Company LCC take over the tollgates that have been shut since October 2020 after the gunshot incident that reportedly left some EndSARS protesters dead and injured.
They have begun to mobilise on social media with #RevolutionNow and #OccupyLekkiTollGate, with the matter trending as number one and three on Twitter.
Speaking on the development, the Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while speaking to newsmen, said no group would be allowed to hold any protest come Saturday, February 13.
“Allowing both groups to carry out their planned protests will be counter-productive. No protest in any guise will be allowed to take place on Saturday 13th February 2021.”he said
